20 year old Ricky Bowers already has a decade of racing experience under his belt, but his racing dreams started much earlier. At the age of 5, he lived out his racing fantasy by fashioning makeshift racecars out of cardboard boxes while watching NASCAR on television. In 2004, he finally got the chance to trade in the cardboard for a go-kart when he started racing at a local track near his hometown of Mentor, Ohio. Just two years later, he won a track championship. Ricky’s racing prowess was noticed and in 2011 he landed a spot in Ron Sutton’s NASCAR Driver Development program in California. Ricky juggled his commutes to California with his life in Ohio where he was a dedicated high school student, a service-driven Eagle Scout, and an accomplished cross country runner. His busy life at home didn’t distract him from his ultimate goal. While in Ron Sutton’s program, he raced in the USAC Ford Focus midget (now called HPD midgets) series. He drove his way to victory lane en route to a runner up in USAC’s Western Pavement Ignite Midget Championship. Ricky joined K&K Motorsports in 2013 where he began driving NASCAR Whelen Modifieds. In 2014 he proved his dedication to the sport by moving his whole life to California to live and breathe racing. While there he earned 3 top five finishes and one win, which fulfilled his personal goal of winning at every level of racing he has had the chance to compete. Now he is setting his sights on racing on the east coast where he hopes to continue moving up the ranks to his ultimate goal of racing in one of the top 3 NASCAR series.
