MotoConcepts Racing: INDY SX Report

SPOKANE, WA (March 14, 2015) – The Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana housed the eleventh round of the AMA Monster Energy Supercross series. Each week, these already challenging supercross tracks seem to be getting more and more technical, Indy being no exception. Team Smartop MotoConcepts already had one rider, Mike Alessi (#800/450), injured out this weekend and just about had their second rider in the 250 class, Vince Friese (#45), sidelined as well. During practice, Friese had a gnarly get off in the whoops and actually cracked his collarbone. This set back had us all wondering if he’d even be racing the night show at all.

Friese mustered up all the strength he could find and lined up for the 250 Heat one as every member of the Smartop MotoConcepts team picked their jaws up off the floor. “Friese is one bad dude,” said team owner Mike Genova, watching from the luxury of his home this weekend. The gate dropped and Friese was second in line coming around the big sweeper corner. By the end of the opening lap, K. Cunningham and M. Davalos passed Friese for 4th as he endured the pain of his practice crash injury. The checkered flag waved and Friese would qualify for the Main event in 7th.

Once again, the MCR bike was out front battling for the Holeshot as the 250’s took off the gate. It would be M. Davalos who would come around the outside of the first turn, snagging Friese’s line choice, and would send him chasing down the forefront leaders. Half way through the race, Friese would make a pass on Rodriquez for 5th but it would be reciprocated by J. Smith, which moved him back into the 6thposition. With only three laps to go, a small mishap would set Friese back to 9th, and with little time left, he would finish the night inside the top ten.
