MotoConcepts Racing: PHOENIX SX Report

SPOKANE, WA (January 10, 2015) – The second round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross, held at Chase field in Phoenix, AZ, was a night full of great racing with some of the fastest riders the 450SX class has ever seen. Smartop MotoConcepts rider, Mike Alessi (#800/450), came into the night hoping to stay on two wheels this year. For the past three years in a row, Alessi has unfortunately found the pavement to be his worst enemy in Phoenix.

Alessi lined up for the 450 Heat 2 with an outside gate pick. This inhibited his ability to achieve a good position off the start for the top 4 transfer spots. He would move onto the 450 Semi 2 and there he would pull off a 2nd place start off the gate. Alessi hung tight in 3rd for a large majority of the race until Baggett made a swift pass in the last lap of the race. A 4th place finish would secure his spot in the Main event and alleviate some pressure, knowing he wouldn’t have to face the daunting LCQ.

With another outside gate pick, Alessi struggled to get a highly important start for the 450SX Main event. After the first turn, he found himself sitting around the 16th position. A few laps later he settled into the 18th position and would finish the race safe, healthy, and ready to move on to Anaheim 2.
