MotoConcepts Racing: OAKLAND SX Report

SPOKANE, WA (January 24, 2015) – The fourth round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross in Oakland, CA provided a show that would stir the interest of any true fan of racing. The star-studded Main Events became a foreground of emerging story lines infused with championship implications, as a duo of riders engineered their first Main Event wins of the season. As the exciting developments of the 2015 Supercross season are underway, setbacks would temporarily stall the efforts of the Smartop MotoConcepts team. The team would feature their 250 East Coast contender Vince Friese (#45/250) in place of rider Mike Alessi (#800/450), who was inactive after injuring his knee last week in Anaheim, CA. Competing against a 450 class polluted with talent, Friese geared up for battle with every intention of establishing himself amongst the sport’s biggest names.

After qualifying 4th for the Main event in Semi 2, Friese and the Smartop MotoConcepts team were confident that a top 10 finish was within reach. Friese lined up for the Main event with a chip on his shoulder, but was faced with immediate challenges when a 12th place start had him fighting an uphill battle. While teetering between 10th and 12th for the majority of the race, Friese ran into more trouble as he mistimed a rhythm section, nearly causing him to crash. He gave away two positions and regained his momentum in 14th. Matters proceeded turn worse for Friese after being docked two positions for jumping during the presence of a cross flag. With a 16th place finish on the night, the Smartop MotoConcepts team were pleased to make the Main Event with a fill in rider, but also believe that better results can be had with a rider of Vince Friese’s Caliber. Alessi’s return for the fifth round of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross in Anaheim, CA is still uncertain.
