51FIFTY Energy Drink Yamaha - San Diego SX Race Report

Livingston, CA (February 10, 2015) - 51FIFTY Energy Drink Yamaha rolled into the tight confines for San Diego Supercross at the new Petco Park. The gorgeous downtown skyline made a picturesque background for the exciting racing.

In Heat One, flu stricken Austin Politelli went out and battled his way into a qualifying position early on. The Dunlop tires hooked up great on the tacky San Diego dirt, and Austin finished in 7th, transferring him directly to the main event.

During Heat Two, Jake Canada was forced to come from the back of the pack in hopes of making the main. Strong, solid laps allowed him to climb up through the field, but a few small mistakes late in the race kept him one spot away from a coveted qualifying position. Jake would eventually withdraw from the night program for personal reasons.

During the main event, Politelli got a decent jump and was about midpack. He kept the 51FIFTY Energy Drink Yamaha machine up inside the top ten for multiple laps, and was duking it out with previous race winners. Austin executed his lines perfectly lap after lap but his nagging flu got to him just after the half way point in the race. Trying to push your body to the absolute limit while suffering from an illness is grueling and Austin charged until the end of the race but dropped several spots late in the race to finish 16th.

The 250 West series takes a break over the next few weeks as the series heads east. The team will continue testing and looks to finish off the season strong when the series returns on April 11th in Houston.
