51FIFTY Energy Drink Yamaha - Anaheim 3 SX Race Report

Livingston, CA (February 3, 2015) - The 51FIFTY Energy Drink Team rolled into round 5 of the Supercross season ready to handle unfinished business.

The timed qualifying sessions saw both Austin and Jake setting times within the top 20. The challenging track proved to be treacherous for some, but the 51FIFTY boys kept it on two wheels and were ready for the the night show.

In Heat One, Austin Politelli got a solid mid-pack start but was able to squeak past a number of riders as carnage unfolded in front of him. Austin continued forward finishing in 6th place with and a solid gate pick for the main event.

During Heat Two, Jake Canada laid down consistent laps aboard the #60 machine. A midpack start would leave him no choice but to come from behind in hopes of transferring directly to the main. Running in a qualifying spot, a small miscue enabled two riders to pass leaving Canada one spot short of a direct qualification.

Jake had the first gate pick for the LCQ and was able to get a great jump on the field. He got pushed wide in the first corner, and was forced to dodge bikes from fallen riders. Jake was pushed off the track and, with no pathway, was forced to ride on the sides of the jumps for nearly the entire stadium length. He got up and gave it his best effort but late in the race, knowing he would fail to qualify, entertained the crowd with heal-clickers and huge whips.

During the main event, Politelli started outside the top 10. He passed multiple riders off the bat and moved up 6 positions in just 3 laps. AP981 was closing in on the front group, until the red flag was thrown. The restart played in Austin's favor, as he came out in 7th around the second corner. Racing up towards the front of the pack is where Austin belongs, and he looked comfortable banging bars with previous race winners. The soft sand section proved to be his kryptonite as Austin washed out, filling his goggles with sand, which he had to remove . He remounted but without goggles, getting roosted, could only manage a19th on the night.
